School Bulletin for the Week of April 23, 2008
development update
Thank you! In the spirit of giving and inspiring community, Susan Snyder, Board of Trustees member, and EC Donkel and 3rd grade parent, has generously offered to match every gift from her classes up to $550. We at the Development Office greatly thank her, and hope that parents from EC Donkel and 3rd grade will also thank her by donating to the Annual Fund and having your gift mean twice as much. We would also like to thank Michelle Fire for not only offering to donate a Red Velvet cake to each class to reach 100% participation, but also for going to many, many parent nights over the course of the past few months to talk about the Annual Fund.
To date, we now have an Annual Fund total of $162,000 thanks to the generous gifts and pledges from various members of the CWS community. Parent participation has been increasing and has finally reached 50%! Thank you to each parent who has stepped forward to help make this possible. We are now over half way to meeting our goal of 90% parent participation. And for those of you who have yet to give, there is a multitude of ways you can give. You can pay by check or credit card or you can stop by the Development Office which is located across the street from the Main Office. Or if you prefer to donate in the comfort of your own home, you can always go online to the CWS website and click on the Annual Fund link on the sidebar. Or simply just drop off your check with Kristin Pellicori at the front desk. If you have any questions before making your donation, please don't hesitate to call Kristi Richey at 773.828.8456.

driving for dollars
Parents or legal guardians who provide transportation to and from school because free transportation is not available for their children may be eligible to receive money from the state of Illinois to help offset some of the cost. To qualify, you must live over 1.5 miles from school. This transportation reimbursement program has been in effect for some time and Waldorf parents have taken advantage of the program in the past. To apply, parents must submit claim information (social security number and claim amount or distance from home to CWS) to our office. Then we transmit it electronically to the State Board of Education. We suggest that parents interested in applying for the reimbursement come to the front office to verify eligibility and begin the process. Reimbursement requests must be submitted no later than June 30, 2008.

parking it!
As we all are aware, the new pick-up and drop-off procedures began several weeks ago;however, some parents have already begun to fall into old habits and park on Lakewood on a regular basis rather than using the large parking lot on Loyola across from the Sophia Garden. This privilege is for parents in unusual circumstances, not just for daily drop-off and pick-up. Please be considerate and enjoy the walk with your children!

high school benefit
The High School Benefit evening will be an opportunity for the whole community to have fun, enjoy the performing gifts of our student and adult community and help a worthy cause. Performers will include: 10th grade gymnast Abby Koziol; 10th grade master of memory Kelsey Murphy Miles; a musical contribution by Mr. Dankert, Ms. Desouches and Mr. Spade; poetry by alumni parent, Maureen Flannery; a violin performance by Farley Kelly Masterton. Josh Collins will reprise his stand up comedy routine from the senior projects and the proverbial much more. This may be your one and only opportunity (drum roll, please) to see high school art teacher David Dozier cut off his pony tail on stage if donations for that specific purpose reach $1000. There will also be delicious tastebud-tickling refreshments. We hope you will join us at 7:30pm this Saturday, April 26th in the CWS auditorium.
