you do the math!
The High School Math Club recently competed in the regionals of the Illinois Council of Teachers of Mathematics (ICTM) math competition. While we didn't make it to state, our scores improved greatly over last year’s scores. We would like to share with the community some problems that we work on in order to prepare for this competition and see if the readers can solve them. These problems will usually not require more than skills in sophomore geometry. All are welcome to submit their answers to Andrew Starzynski or Brian Gleichauf. Individuals submitting correct responses will be recognized in an upcoming edition of the Bulletin. Here is this week’s problem good luck:
All ages in this problem are in years. A man is three times as old as his wife was when the man was as old as his wife is now.
The man is now 48. Find the number of years in the present age of his wife.
