Quotes

“I think that it is not exaggerated to say that no other educational system in the world gives such a central role to the arts as the Waldorf School Movement. There is not a subject taught that does not have an artistic aspect. Even mathematics is presented in an artistic fashion and related via dance, movement or drawing to the child as a whole. Steiner’s system of education is built on the premise that art is an integral part of human endeavors. He gives it back its true role. Anything that can be done to further his revolutionary educational ideals will be of the greatest importance.”

Parent / Child

The Chicago Waldorf School Parent-Child Program provides education and resources for parents and their young children from infancy to three-and-a-half years of age. In an inviting environment that echoes the rhythms and atmosphere of a Waldorf early childhood classroom, parents and children come together to explore the wonders of the first three years of life.

Parents engage in home-like activities or make simple crafts while their children help them or play near-by. Children play with simple, natural toys and materials and are guided through the morning by the gentle rhythm of circle time, creative play, snack and story time.

Circle and story time reflect the world of nature and seasonal festivals. Circle time provides a rich learning experience through music and rhyme, games and movements engage both large and fine motor coordination. Stories and puppet plays nourish the child’s imagination and provide rich material for creative play.

The classes offer information and parents have an opportunity to discuss child development, parenting issues and Waldorf education with an experienced teacher. Morning and afternoon sessions of ten to fourteen weeks each are offered in the Fall, Winter and Spring and an expanded two-day program for three year olds is also available.
