Senior Spotlight: Darren
Tell us a little bit about your senior project!
My Senior Project was about the different ways houses can withstand natural disasters. When I was researching, I researched the different types of disasters - floods, earthquakes, hurricanes, and wildfires - and I researched different ways or methods for houses to better survive these natural disasters.
What kind of methods did you find that have been successful or that you think could be successful?
For floods, I would say elevating your home. If you elevate your home higher than the average height of a flood, you could prevent most damage.
How long have you been at cwhs?
I've been here for four years, since freshman year. I came from St. James Lutheran School. As far as class size goes, it wasn't that different. I had 14 people in my class. And I have 14 now, so it's not too much of a difference. Workload wise, it is high school, so more workload. But after a while, I just became able to manage it.
What is a memory or an experience that you've had here that you'll take with you after high school?
It feels like my class is very much a unit. Of course, there are small groups of people who hang out with each other, but anytime we all want to do something with each other, everybody joins in, and I think that is something that will stay with me.
How do you feel your time at CWHS has shaped you as a person?
Back in middle school, I would say I was more independent, and I worked a lot by myself. Here, I still do, but in certain classes, or doing certain tasks, I work more with other people. That really helps me figure out things faster.
what are your plans after you graduate?
I will be attending the Illinois Institute of Technology’s (IIT) College of Architecture.
